Dawsonville, incorporated December 10, 1859, is the county seat of Dawson County. The city was named after William C. Dawson, a compiler of the laws of Georgia and commander of a brigade in the Creek Indian War of 1836. Dawson also served in both houses of the state legislature and in Congress before the Civil War.

Dawsonville is the home of NASCAR Champion, Bill Elliot and his racing operation. The Elliott Museum and Souvenir Center is the home of Bill Elliot’s auto racing paraphernalia and memorabilia.

Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge – Containing the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi, Amicalola Falls is one of Georgia’s favorite parks. 829 acres of trails, mountains and lodging accommodations are included in this natural wonder. 
Burt’s Pumpkin Farm – 
A unique family experience at this pumpkin farm in Dawsonville. Every type of pumpkin is displayed ranging from 1 lb. To 150 lbs! Hayrides are available September through October.
Dawson County Arts Council 
– The Dawson County Arts Council offers art education classes, performing and visual art events and conference rooms for meetings and events. The council works to enhance the cultural and artistic sprit of Dawson County.
Kangaroo Conservation Center – Named by the Atlanta Journal Constitution as one of the “don’t miss” attractions in Georgia, the Kangaroo Conservation Center is located in the foothills of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Tours are given Tuesday thru Saturday.
